In order to take our reflections on European regional development a step further, the CPMR and UNDP organised a joint seminar of their respective Scientific Councils in Lisbon on 3 and 4 December 2007, at the invitation of Mr Fonseca Ferreira, President of the Regional Development and Coordination Committee of Lisbon and Tagus Valley. The aim was to bring together regional and world experts to discuss the topic of “Territories and Globalisation”.
The two days of this seminar aimed to prepare for the meeting in Tangier (2nd International Convention on a Regional and Local Approach to Development), and to contribute to the reinforcement of the steps being taken by the United Nations and its agencies towards taking account of the regional tier of government. The seminar brought together world level scientific experts and representatives of the Forum of Global Associations of Regions for a fruitful debate between ‘academics’ and practitioners.
